A new organization called Young Men Doing God's Will, recently put on a program in the Garrison Lecture Hall. The "Apollo" program lasted for about two hours and featured songs from gospel to rap, and musicians from pianist to bass guitarist. It also featured a number of comedy routines and audience participation.

The organization did not charge admissions for the program, and instead, asked for donations and provided free sub sandwiches from Firehouse Subs. It showcased good clean fun for all who attended - all 39 who attended. The low turn-out was a blow for the new group after posting flyers, handing out flyers and even posting an ad on the school's television channel.

Jarrod Dickerson, president of the organization, feels the program was a success in its main goal, but didn't quite accomplish the other goals set for the event.

"I believe we did a great job of showing young adults that cuss words and fighting aren't necessary to have a good time," he said, "but, on that same note, when we tried to get serious and tell people about our organization and our main purpose, due to our low turn-out, the people didn't really try to hear us out," Dickerson said.

Dickerson felt the need to do anything to help out the organization, as he went through impromptu acts with his co-host, James Giles, who is also the group's vice president. "The majority of our acts couldn't make it due to certain problems that they couldn't avoid, but we were blessed enough to keep the show going on and keep the audience laughing."

The organization looks to be more important than just jokes and music. Dickerson and his members established Young Men Doing God's Will with a firm belief that they can do something in their community to make a change in a positive direction.
