It was 9:15 Monday night, Sept. 22, when senior pre-pharmacy major Megan Pinkerton walked back to her car, which was parked in the Russell Fine Arts (RFA) parking lot.

She noticed a coat hanger beside her car, but didn't think anything of it.

She drove home, and upon arriving she reached to grab her backpack from her back seat and discovered it wasn't there.

The pieces started falling into place. Someone had broken into her car and stolen her backpack.

She is one victim of many breaking and entering cases that have happened recently on campus.

The first incident happened on Friday, Sept. 12.

Milissa Chance, graduate MLA student, reported to campus police that she parked her vehicle in the Wilson Street parking lot around 10:30 a.m. to go to class.

When she returned, she noticed items missing from her vehicle, and her doors were unlocked.

Two books, a digital camera, a messenger bag, a deck of tarot cards and a personal journal were among the items missing.

There was another case of breaking and entering reported in the parking lot on Wilson Street Wednesday, Sept. 17 around 2:00 p.m.

Diontae Davis, junior physical education major, returned to his car around 3:00 p.m. and found his door slightly open. His gym bag had been stolen.

The third case occurred on Monday, Sept. 22.

Taneshia Marshall, senior family and consumer sciences major, informed Henderson police that her car had been broken into for the second time in two weeks. She parked the car behind the Meier House at 8:45 that morning, and when she returned she noticed her purse was lighter.

When she looked inside, she discovered that $200.00 was missing.

Pinkerton is the fourth reported victim in the past two weeks.

When she discovered her bag was missing, she immediately went to the information desk at the school, and they told her to file a report with the campus police.

"At 7:15 that evening I had gone to get something out of my bag, so I knew my bag was there," Pinkerton said.

"Immediate panic, and I just went to crying," Pinkerton said of her reaction when she first discovered her car was broken into.

Her bag held her organic chemistry and calculus books, as well as all the class work she had done since school started.

This was the first time something like this has happened to her before.

"I think that was why I got so freaked out," Pinkerton said.
