The Henderson Comics Arts Club is bringing acclaimed comic book artist David Mack to Henderson this month.

According to davidmack.net, Mack's official website, he is the creator of the "Kabuki" comic book series about a woman, codenamed Kabuki, who works for the Noh Assassins in a feudalistic Japan of the future.

"I decided that I wanted to create a comic book in which I could incorporate all of my personal philosophies, my passion for learning and integrate my everyday personal experiences," said Mack in an interview with journalist Patrick Hickey, Jr.

"I loved autobiographical comics, but I wasn't yet comfortable with that idea. I wanted to tell personal truths, but at a distance through the un-self-conscious comfort of a veil."

The series consists of seven volumes and they are published under Marvel Comics' imprint label, Icon Comics.

Mack's website also states that he is working on a live action film of "Kabuki" with 20th Century Fox. Beyond writing the treatment for the screenplay, his credits for the film include visual designer, creative consultant and co-producer.

The events at Henderson begin on March 12 at 12:30 p.m., when Mack is scheduled to have lunch with the comics club.

Mack will then visit the Comics as Communication class at 1:30 p.m. and Motion Graphics class at 3:30 p.m.

"Any interested student is welcome to sit in on the comics as communications class in Arkansas Hall, room 209," said

Professor of Communication Randy Duncan via e-mail.

Duncan is also a co-advisor, along with Professor of Psychology Travis Langley, of the comics club.

The events continue at the Huie Library with a reception and book signing at 6 p.m., followed by a public lecture called "The Alchemy of Creation with David Mack" at 7 p.m. on the second floor of the Huie Library.
