Graduating from college is a very special and honorable achievement in life. Students who attend a university plan on finishing courses and graduating within a four-year time span. The last thing a college student would want to hear is he or she will not be able to graduate due to one or two courses he or she failed to take.

Taking all the correct courses for a major is a very important aspect of a college career. "Henderson Seminar is a course we provide that tells the student directly about a major of interest and exactly what they should be taking," said Tom Gattin of the registrar's office.

First, a student should have somewhat of an idea about his or her career of interest. After knowing exactly what someone wants to major in, the course that will send the student on the correct path will be offered to them to follow. If students are undecided about exactly what they would be interested in taking on, they are encouraged to take all general study courses first until they become decided on a particular major.

One major problem that a lot of college students undergo is dropping courses. A student may enroll for a class and later find that the class is difficult to pass. "Dropping courses is a very bad habit to get into," said Gattin. Gattin stated that if the student attends classes each week and pays attention, the student should make at least a C in the class. Some students who drop courses forget to retake the classes, which can set them back from graduating.

Being a responsible college student is a very important aspect. Some students take out the time to register for classes themselves. This option is very acceptable among upperclassmen or graduate students who are aware of their courses and know exactly what to enroll in, yet freshmen and sophomores are encouraged to meet with their advisors to keep them on the correct educational path. The advisor helps students with the knowledge of what classes the student should be enrolled in at the time and what classes to take first or last.
