Unopposed - Sophomore theatre major Jeff Bailey will take over as president of the Student Government Association this week.

The Student Government Association, SGA, at Henderson acts as the voice of the students to the faculty and staff. They work closely with all of the departments to make sure that the students' voices are heard and that they get what they need on campus.

Since the SGA represents the students on campus, elections are held every year for the students to decide who they think will best represent them.

It begins in the fall, when nine senators are elected to represent the School of Business, School of Education, the graduate school and Ellis College, along with two freshmen representatives from the incoming freshmen class.

In the spring semester, however, it is time for the SGA to nominate their choices from the senate for the presidency.
This year, the SGA has chosen to elect sophomore theatre major Jeff Bailey as the new president of the SGA.

Normally, the SGA would nominate their choices for the presidency, and the student body would be able to vote on the nominee they want to be the president.Since no one in the senate decided to run against Bailey, there were no elections held this semester, and as of April 27, Bailey will officially be the new president.

Bailey said that he is ready for the job and has already got big plans for his time as president.

"My plans include making the SGA much more active and visible on campus," said Bailey.

"I want to make sure that the students' opinions on such things as parking, security and campus life are heard by the faculty."
As for previous experience, this past year Bailey has served in the SGA as a senator and has served on numerous committees.

One such committee is the Master Plan Committee that decides how the campus will be shaped over the next 5-25 years.

"We talked about where the new cafeteria will possibly be placed," said Bailey. "We also discussed how parking and other issues would be addressed in addition to that."

Bailey also served on the Reaccreditation Committee, whose goal is to prepare Henderson for and pass their next accreditation assessment in order to be recertified as a state university.
