Finally our patience was rewarded. At 10:14 pm, Steven Patrick Morrissey opened his set with "This Charming Man." At 10:15 pm, I scanned the crowd and saw a fangirl crying. At 10:15:51 pm, I latched onto said fangirl and shed some tears of my own.
He actually sang "How Soon Is Now?" and a few other Smiths songs. Every time he did so, we would cheer incessantly and he would look at us with nothing short of disgust. I can't tell if Morrissey loves his fans or hates them.
He seemed to mock us all night. Some songs he would rush through because he didn't want to sing them. Other songs, he would give everything he had into every note. We couldn't have been more ecstatic either way.
Seeing the man in person is nothing short of a religious experience. Like I mentioned before, the devotion of the fans and lack of comfort made the wait seem like a Baptist tent revival. This means that when the concert actually got underway, the only thing I could possibly compare it to was rapture.
