"If I do not like a horse or do not fit with one, then we will sell it," she said.

According to Moore, the best barrel racing horses have a particular build, not a particular breed. The Moore family purchases this more muscular build and then sends their horses to receive barrel racing training for four to six months.

After the horses return, Moore works with the horses diligently. "I would say to get one completely trained, it takes a year to two years," Moore said.

This process takes a lot of time and dedication from both Moore and her parents. Every weekend, Moore makes the hour-long drive home to Dierks and trains hard with her horses. "As soon as I get home, I get on a horse and ride Saturday and Sunday."

The horses she is working with lately are Titan, 4, and Taebo, 9. Taebo is currently Moore's competition horse and has been racing for six years. Now Moore competes for fun and, of course, money, but this was not always the case. In 2003, Moore won the title of Youth World Champion in Jackson, Miss., which gave her the biggest prize package she has seen: a sponsored horse trailer, a saddle, a blanket, $1,800, knickknacks and recognition.

"It was cool because then I could walk up to a barrel race and people would be like 'You won that!' and I was like 'YEAH!'" she said.

Only four people from each district, which includes multiple states, are invited to compete in the world show.

The big shows are Moore's favorite because the crowd is more fun in her opinion.

"It's just like you see on TV: tons of people, excitement and vendors everywhere.

It's a lot of fun!" Moore plans to continue to compete during her free weekends all throughout her college career and hopefully carry on the tradition to her future family.

"If I have a boy, I will understand him not wanting to barrel race, but he will definitely be on a horse," Moore said.
