Now that Halloween is finally over, stores will begin to bring the Christmas items out to the front line.

In Wal-Mart, it seems as if the employees who stock the shelves have been trying slowly to sneak the Christmas merchandise into the aisles for weeks now.

Pre-lit Christmas trees, artificial poinsettias and the Christmas sugar cookies will be taking over stores near students right about now.

With the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays just around the corner, students are anticipating a break from school, time with family and friends back home and doing some major damage at the dinner table. Another thing that students, greeks especially, are anticipating with the Christmas season nearing is the chance to give back to the community. Each year the greeks put on the All Greek Council Toy Drive.

"Last year, we had an excellent turnout, and we're anticipating the same thing again this year," said President of the All Greek Council Brandon Thurston.

Thurston is a senior primary education major who pledged Alpha Phi Alpha in 2007.

In the spring of 2008 Thurston was nominated and elected as All Greek Council president.

The All Greek Council is comprised of all 15 greek organizations on campus.

They come together three times each year to complete a community service project.

The sole purpose of the All Greek Council is to "serve mankind to the best of our ability," said Thurston.

Each year the council chooses a different organization to donate the toys to.

On Oct. 22 the council met and decided that this year the toys would be donated to the Clark County Foster Parent Association.

The council feels that the foster parents of Clark County are doing a great thing by opening their hearts to children in need and want to help take some of the stress off that comes with holiday expenses.

Starting today through Dec. 11, students, faculty and staff will be able to donate toys at collection stations that will be set up in the Garrison, Womack, McBrien and Arkansas Hall.

"We hope to get everyone involved in donating this year, not just greeks," said Thurston.
