With two consecutive certified platinum albums under their belt, the Toronto-based band Three Days Grace decided to change it up a little.
Their 2003 self-titled debut had three hit singles: "I Hate Everything about You," "Just Like You," which climbed to No. 1 on both the Mediabase Modern Rock and Mainstream Rock charts, and "Home."
"One-X" released in 2006 with hard-hitting singles like "Animal I've Become," "Pain" and "Never Too Late."
In 2007, Mediabase ranked the band as the No. 1 artist in airplay across all rock formats.
In 2008, they wrapped up more than two years of touring in the U.S., with other talented rock bands such as Nickelback, Staind, Seether and Breaking Benjamin.
"Life Starts Now," available since Sept.
22, 2009, could not have been given a better title.
This album was made with songs about life and how it feels to struggle at rock bottom.
All four members faced death on some level or another.
Most of the tracks were created with the idea of making the best of every situation, no matter how difficult it is.
Before they entered the studio to produce this album, the band took some time to listen to bands that had inspired them in their youth, such as Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath.
This led to the same Three Days Grace sound that fans love but still spawned a little different tone. This album is rawer and has a bigger sound.
The first single off "Life Starts Now" is called "Break."
It starts with a simple drum beat and then explodes into the first verse.
With lyrics like, "Break away from everybody/ Break away from everything/ If you can't stand the way this place is/ Take yourself to higher places," there was no doubt that the band is encouraging listeners to take charge of their life and not be controlled by their surroundings.
"Lost in You" is one of those songs that showcases the softer side of Three Days Grace.
The chorus has swoon-worthy lyrics such as, "Somehow I found a way to get lost in you/ Let me inside, let me get close to you/ Change your mind, I'll get lost if you want me to/ Somehow I found a way to get lost in you." It speaks volumes and reminds fans that not all Three Days Grace songs are angst-filled.
