for past hits "Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic," "Mass Effect" and last fall's soon-to-be classic "Dragon Age: Origins," has a new baby that pushes the capabilities of the Xbox 360 to the limit.
The long-awaited "Mass Effect 2" is here, and it has TWO DISCS.
The space-age, alien butt-kicking army hero Commander
Shepard is back.
Well, for a minute, that is. Then his ship, the Normandy,
is attacked and he is killed. He really dies. Out. Dead. Gone!
OK, Shepard is dead until
his body is found and brought back to life for a special
mission.
Shepard is in a coma for two years before he is built back completely, and during that time someone working
for the reapers has been eliminating human colonies.
Once again, Commander Shepard is humanity's last hope.
A few changes in "Mass Effect 2's" game play include a new melee button and players
can no longer crouch unless
right next to a wall.
Guns now require ammo but do not overheat. Players also have to buy fuel for their ship.
This is a somewhat annoying
change as Shepard and the gang must navigate all over the galaxy, and the fuel is not cheap, but it does make the experience more realistic.
Also, the "Overriding" procedure
to open containers filled with guns and other various goodies are gone.
Now players must bypass circuit locks and hack data plans by matching symbols within an allotted time.
This is cool, at first.
Because this process takes so long, players eventually grow tired of the hassle and will want to pass up items instead.
Overriding was much simpler.
The sniper rifle has been given some much-needed improvements as well.
In the first installment, holding the rifle steady was impossible, and if the target was hit, it was a lucky shot.
The rifle in "Mass Effect 2" is much easier to use.
