Fall Break Gets Last Chance

It is the middle of November,
and students are racking their brains, preparing for midterms.
If only there were a break to free the mind?
"Fall break is a great way to give a break to the students and teachers from the stress of mid terms," said Chelsie Ward, sophomore pre-dental major and senator of the Student
Government Association
(SGA) at Henderson.
Fall break has been something
discussed over and over and keeps recurring as an issue with the SGA and the faculty senate.
"We would like to put this riff to rest once and for all," said Brandon Thurston, senior
early childhood education
major and Teacher's College senator of SGA.
Last semester SGA and faculty senate held a panel discussion.
However, they have never come to a conclusion over the ongoing debate for or against a fall break.
Faculty does not want to give up three to five pay days, while students do not want to have to return to school early
in the fall or leave late for summer break.
"When making decisions, we have no other choice but to investigate the entire circumstance, or we fail to make a wise decision," Thurston
said.
In helping to make this decision, SGA is going to be hosting a petition regarding fall break.
The petition will serve as a means for students and faculty
to show their interest in whether or not they want to have a fall break.
This petition will not make the final decision of having a fall break, but it will give insight
from all points of view and aid in the making of that decision.
It is a way to give students the opportunity to have their opinions and their voices heard.
Schools like the University of Arkansas (U of A), Arkansas
State University (ASU) and the University of Central Arkansas (UCA) have a fall break.
The U of A gives their students
one more day off for Thanksgiving break as their fall break.
ASU gives their students the entire week of Thanksgiving
and students are racking their brains, preparing for midterms.
