However, many colleges are bumping up prices and fees to offset monstrous funding cuts.
A one to two percent increase
on tuition is a possibility
for Henderson, but not if budget committee chairman Bobby Jones has anything to say about it.
"Our goal is to not increase the cost to students," said Jones during last Thursday's committee meeting. "We're not increasing tuition yet."
The out of state tuition waiver has already been changed, as well as the policy on scholarships (scholarship funds will no longer rise if tuition
is increased; it will be a flat amount) but the committee
remains firmly against raising anymore costs for students.
The committee discussed several way to increase revenue,
such as increasing on-line courses, offering more flexibility in scheduling of classes (having classes Monday through Thursday to allow for Friday, Saturday and Sunday classes) and an examination of some courses that could be taught by a faculty
member with a masters degree versus a PhD.
A cut on utilities is also a money saving option for Henderson. According to Jones, the Huie Library alone racked up a massive water bill over the last year.
"I couldn't believe [how much it cost]," said Jones. "I was pretty sure we didn't have that many commodes out there."
Henderson will need that money to hire more workers for the financial aid department

Hopefully they won't have to increase the tuition, but it looks like it might be inevitable.
